Pioneer Day 2015
Annually on the first Saturday in September, the museum committee under the direction of the La Crete Agricultural Society organizes a Pioneer Day. Pioneer Day serves to engage the community and educate the younger generations on the early settlers’ way of life.
Unlike 2014, the 2015 event was a warm sunny day. The event was enjoyed by approximately 1000 people. A pancake breakfast was served to approximately 500 people by museum and community volunteers. This was followed by an antique tractor, equipment, and vehicle parade and flour mill demonstration. The majority of the heritage buildings were open for viewing after the parade and until noon.
Five vendors supplied a variety of cultural foods like waffles, kielke, vareniki, rullkuchen, and yeets kuchen while local groups provided music from up on the old ferry.
Afternoon activities started with a kids’ Loonie Hunt in the sandbox, and was followed by a variety of antique equipment operations. Some of which were the horse power, feed grinder, stationary engines, planer, wood shingle machine, saw mill, wheat binder, and threshing machine. Other fun activities included the old-fashioned photo shoot, nail pounding, log sawing, and tractor and fire truck pulls.
The museum committee wishes to thank all the community volunteers, La Crete Co-op for donating $500 towards the breakfast, and ATB for donating $200 Loonies for the Kids’ Loonie Hunt.
