Seniors Day
The fact that the province has instituted the first week in June as “Seniors’ Week” inspired us to organize an event for our own seniors. We were restricted to the space in the small hall and we filled it right up! We had 112 people in attendance.
Volunteer board members, Jacob & Sarah Wiebe and Peter & Martha Letkeman, along with a community volunteer, Tena Friesen, prepared cabbage borscht, watermelon, roll kuchen and rhubarb crisp with ice cream. Mary Driedger from La Crete Support Services helped Dave & Susan Siemens serve the tables.
Alpine Builders donated $500 towards the meal and La Crete Support Services paid the remaining balance. Thank you – it is greatly appreciated.
Dave F. Peters, Abe Friesen, Betty Goertzen, and John Siemens provided some awesome music on the fiddle, organ, accordion, and mouth organ.
Susan Siemens showed a slideshow about local and general Mennonite history.
We believe the seniors truly enjoyed the meal and had a great time!
The volunteers enjoyed serving the seniors that built this community from the ground up. We’re truly enjoying the benefits of their dedication and hard work.
